A few weeks ago I set some new goals for the year ahead. One of these goals was to shake up my skincare routine and actually stick with it for the long haul. I wouldn’t normally talk about beauty and skin-care topics because I’m not a typical girly girl and I’ll be honest – I don’t really have the faintest clue about it. BUT, I did promise that my blog would talk about my progress with my goals and what is and isn’t working. So here you are.
I feel VERY brave posting a clear face photo of myself. I’m not HUGE on makeup, but it is extremely rare that I will be found with absolutely none on my face (let alone display these instances on social media). But I have been ridiculously impressed and shocked with what making one or two small changes can make to your skin. The photo below is taken at what is normally the most blemish-ridden time of the month (girls, you know what I mean) and yet… where are they? Where are all the spots. I am dumbfounded.
I naturally have a very oily complexion, yet I wasn’t doing anything to help my skin at all. All I was using previously was a quick makeup wipe before bed. (Don’t tell anyone but I still use these at the gym…).
So, to share with you my discovery of spot-free skin, here is what I am now using:
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel – because it is for oily and sensitive skin, I was worried that it might dry my skin out a little, but I always feel refreshed and hydrated post-use. Bingo.
Clarins Cleansing Milk – simple the most luxuriously softening feel I’ve ever put on my face, whilst removing even more dirt. On the busier evenings I sometimes skip step 1 (above) and move straight onto this because I trust that it is removing at least the majority of dirt that accumulates.
Clarins Gentle Eye Make Up Remover – I read soooooooo many praising reviews of this stuff before purchasing as I have previously found that eye make up remover can sometimes be a bit crap. Especially when you’re wearing waterproof mascara all day… that stuff is stubborn! But it is so quick, and as promised, gentle. And if you don’t believe me, then just google it. Amazing product.
Dr Nick Lowe Deep Action Blemish Serum – perhaps it was just the price of it, but I feel like I’m smothering myself in luxury when I put this on. I don’t really know how it works, but its working. I put it on every morning and night without fail and I can feel my skin just soaking it up like it’s never been hydrated by anything before and the blemishes… well, they are well and truly gone. *fingers crossed*
So, above is my face that should be covered in blemishes, yet oddly isn’t.
As you can tell from my above “reviews” of my new skincare routine, it isn’t really a topic that I know much (nor really care too much) about. HOWEVER, if this does interest you, and you’re looking for some advice on all things skincare, my friend at Maple Tree offers amazing advice, blogs and reviews on (primarily Asian) skincare products. Check her out, she is amazing at what she does and is always the first to know when there is a new product on the scene to try. – http://mapletreeblog.com/
